CWU CELEBRATES THE INTRODUCTION OF A SENATE RESOLUTION TO SECURE THE RIGHT TO ORGANIZE AND COLLECTIVELY BARGAIN FOR SENATE STAFF
Washington, DC – Today, the Congressional Workers Union released the following statement applauding the introduction of Senator Sherrod Brown’s resolution to secure the right to organize and collectively bargain for Senate staff:
“In one year, the Congressional Workers Union has secured the right for House staff to unionize and collectively bargain without fear of retaliation. We have organized 18 Congressional offices, including the first office in the Senate with Senator Markey’s staff seeking voluntary recognition.
“Senator Sherrod Brown’s resolution will offer the same legal right to Senate staffers to unionize and collectively bargain that exists in the House. These protections are key in our work to ensure that staffers are guaranteed an equitable, inclusive, and safe workplace across Congress.
“CWU extends our gratitude to the workers across chambers who have built the movement clearing the path for Senator Brown’s introduction of this resolution. Thank you to the Senate staff, co-sponsors, and all supporters of this effort for helping us build a workforce in Congress that reflects the values of the American people.”
Senate staffers interested in unionizing can reach out to CWU at CongressionalWorkersUnion@gmail.com
