CWU ANNOUNCES TWO NEW UNION ELECTION VICTORIES AND PETITIONS
WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 30, 2022) – Today, the Congressional Workers Union (CWU) released the following statement after announcing the results of two more congressional office union elections. On September 28 and September 29, staff in the Office of Congressman Ro Khanna (D-California) and the Office of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) voted electronically in their union election. Today, CWU announced that the eligible staff in both offices voted to elect CWU as their union. The vote tally was 9-1 and 12-0, respectively. They are the second and third offices to join CWU, all of which have voted overwhelmingly to join.
Additionally, the Congressional Workers Union announced that new petitions for representation have been filed with the Office of Congressional Workplace Rights for the Office of Congresswoman Dina Titus (D-Nevada) and the Office of Congressman Sean Casten (D-Illinois).
“We are witnessing a moment right now on Capitol Hill and in the labor movement that will go down in history. Dozens of workers are making meaningful change in the congressional workplace by speaking up and demanding that our nation’s lawmakers provide them a democratic workplace with a seat at the table,” said the Congressional Workers Union. “We congratulate the brave staff in Congressman Khanna’s and Congresswoman Omar’s offices for their landslide victory, and workers in Congresswoman Titus’ and Congressman Casten’s office for taking the first step to forming their union.
“We continue to urge congressional staff interested in bringing the power of solidarity and a union to their workplaces to reach out.”
