CWU CELEBRATES ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF PUBLIC ORGANIZING DRIVE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Workers Union (CWU) released the following statement commemorating its one-year anniversary of publicizing its effort to organize the U.S. House of Representatives and provide congressional staff their long overdue rights to unionize and bargain collectively:
“One year ago, following public support expressed by then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, we brought our unionizing efforts out of the shadows. In the 365 days that have passed, we have secured a collective bargaining agreement, sent dozens of workers to the ballot box to vote to form unions, and leveraged our power to win thousands of dollars in raises for hardworking congressional staffers.
“Despite ongoing attempts by Kevin McCarthy and the anti-worker GOP to strip House staff of their fundamental human right to unionize, we have no plans to stop our unionization drive. As the 118th Congress gets underway, workers feel more empowered than ever to cement their seat at the table so no matter what party is in control. Our right to a democratic workplace is here to stay, and we can’t wait for the years ahead.”
